Volkswagen have unveiled the Vento sedan in India at a ceremony in New Delhi today. Volkswagen will offer both petrol and diesel versions of the car when it eventually goes on sale.

The Vento will be powered by a 1.6-litre 105 bhp petrol with close to 16 kgm of peak torque while a 1.6-litre diesel with 105 bhp and nearly 25.8 kgm of peak torque on tap will also be offered. Volkswagen says that these will be among the most efficient engines in its class.

Volkswagens new offering is aimed at the likes of the Hyundai Verna Transform and the Honda City, both of which have been tremendously successful in India. Based on the Polo platform, the Vento’s wheelbase is about 50 mm longer than the Polo, making it more comfortable on the inside. The rear seat is a touch wider and also features a centre arm rest. VW India says that the car has been designed to appeal to chauffeur driven owners who will appreciate the head room and leg room on offer in theis car.
